Date of issue: 05 JUL 1995The UN was created to maintain and strengthen peace and promote co-operation between sovereign states. Its Charter was drawn up by representatives of the Soviet Union, the United States, Great Britain and China in 1944 and signed by representatives of 50 countries at a conference in San Francisco in 1945. It came into force on October 24, 1945, and ever since this day it is celebrated as the United Nations Day.
