Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (German: Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach) was a historical German state, created as a duchy in 1809 by the merger of the Ernestine duchies of Saxe-Weimar and Saxe-Eisenach, which had been in personal union since 1741.

The Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach branch has been the most genealogically senior extant branch of the House of Wettin since 1672.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Standard circulation coin 3 Pfennigs - Charles August 1791-1792 from Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, German States) made of Copper weighing 7.90 g is that it features an image of Charles August, the reigning Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach at the time, on one side, and the coat of arms of the duchy on the other. This coin was minted during a time of great change and upheaval in Europe, with the French Revolution and the subsequent Napoleonic Wars having a significant impact on many German states, including Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. Despite this, the duchy managed to maintain its independence and cultural identity, and this coin serves as a tangible reminder of that history.
