Comment

JC Thornthwaite migrated to Sydney in 1849 and was one of the first to mint tokens in the region, in 1854. He was a medalist by profession and continued as such from 1868 when token issuing became illegal in NSW. These tokens come in three types, with Type 1 being the most minted. Dimensions can vary, with the example in the image here being from the Victoria Museums possesses a Diameter of 16mm and weight of 1.112 grams, though this may be because of holing. The strikes are not very deep.
