The coin was introduced in 1955, shortly after Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne, and it remained in circulation until 1967. The coin's design features a young Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, surrounded by the inscription "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA" (Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen). The reverse side of the coin features the Fijian coat of arms and the inscription "FIJI 3 PENCE". The coin was made of nickel brass and weighed 6.16 grams.
