Comment
Minted for West Prussia, East Prussia and Danzig (different A - Berlin workshop) as well as for Silesia (different G - Glatz workshop). These coins were legal tender in Poland and South Prussia. Qualified as 3 Gröschel or Düttchen in East Prussia. In Silesia, these coins were considered 3 Kreuzer (Böhm) and not 3 Groschen. Because of the flying eagle on the reverse, these coins were given the popular name "Fledermaus" (bat).A large number of period forgeries are known for this coin. The year 1804 A was not officially minted, so all these coins are said to be period fakes [sources: Olding (p. 76), Schön 18. Jahrh. (p. 810), Schön Weltmünzk. (p. 323), AKS (p. 299)]. According to the AKS, only the vintages 1806-1808 were struck. Vintages prior to 1806, however, are included in other catalogs.
Gold strikes are known for vintages 1807G and 1808G (very rare).

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 3 Gröscher coin from the Kingdom of Prussia is that it was minted during a time of economic and political change in Germany. The coin was introduced in 1800, just a few years before the Napoleonic Wars, which had a significant impact on the German states. The coin's design, featuring Frederick William III, reflects the political and military tensions of the time, as Prussia was struggling to maintain its independence and power in the face of French expansionism. Despite these challenges, the 3 Gröscher coin remained in circulation until 1807, when it was replaced by a new currency. This coin is a fascinating piece of history that provides insight into the economic and political climate of early 19th-century Germany.
