With its bright red maple leaf, the illustrious red and white flag is the pride of Canadians. It's our national flag, symbolizing our belonging to a large and growing community, a living mosaic of cultures, languages and beliefs! It also represents our history and identity within the international community, as we work together to shape our future and that of future generations. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the National Flag of Canada, pay tribute to this emblem par excellence with a beautifully engraved and colorful fine silver coin.Did you know that?
- The adoption of Canada's national flag was proposed long ago, at the end of the 19th century, but to no avail. It wasn't until Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson revived the idea in 1964.
- At the stroke of noon on Parliament Hill on February 15, 1965, the Canadian Red Ensign (formerly the flag of Canada) was lowered and replaced by the flag we know today.
- According to the official description, the national flag is red, with a white square at its center, adorned with a red maple leaf.
- The pattern is symmetrical, so that if the flag is folded in half vertically, the two halves are identical!
- The maple leaf has long been a symbol of Canada, and red and white have been present on the country's coat of arms since it was proclaimed by King George V in 1921. According to the official rules for flying the Canadian flag, it must never touch the ground.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a burgundy double-shell case featuring the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with an illustrated protective box.
