Comment
Only three examples are known, two in the Monnaie de Paris collection and one in the Gadoury collection. A 3-centime coin is kept at the Monnaie de Paris, but it is not known whether this is a trial or a current mintage, nor what quantity was struck. There are no official records of this coin. It is one of the rarest of modern French coins.WARNING: many counterfeits have been seen, made from 5 centimes Dupré, a small module where the 5 is rigged to make a 3.
Interesting fact
The 3 Centimes 4-5 coin was designed by French sculptor and engraver, Augustin Dupré. He was a prominent artist during the French Revolution and was responsible for designing many coins and medals during that time. The coin features a portrait of Liberty on the obverse side and a wreath of oak leaves and berries on the reverse side, which was a common design element during the Revolution.
