Comment
Only two known specimens.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a rare combination of Greek and Latin inscriptions. The obverse (front) side of the coin has the Greek inscription "ΑΡΥΑϹ ΚΑΝΔΟϹ" (Aryas Kandos), which means "Aryas the Victorious," while the reverse (back) side has the Latin inscription "IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG" (Imperator Gordianus Pius Felix Augustus), which means "Emperor Gordianus, Pious and Happy Augustus." This combination of languages and scripts is unusual for coins of this period and suggests that the mint officials in Arycanda were experimenting with different ways of expressing their imperial propaganda.
