To avoid the coin cutting a new legend, edge and countermark was applied over 200 Reis from João IV and Afonso VI.
The mark has been done at the following mint places: Lisbon, Oporto, Coimbra, Guarda, Évora and Tavira.
The coin was countermarked under the Law 14 JUN, 1698
