The Pattern 2.50 Escudos coin was designed by the Portuguese artist and sculptor, Lourenço Gomes. He was known for his work in creating sculptures and monuments throughout Portugal, and his design for the Pattern 2.50 Escudos coin features a portrait of the Portuguese poet, Luís de Camões, on the obverse side.
