Comment
Of priceless historical value, the sumptuous crowns of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II conceal much more than the brilliance of their precious stones. Our third tiara tribute piece is inspired by one of the most recent additions to the Royal Collection: a modern sapphire tiara commissioned in 1963. On the gold field, 28 diamonds sparkle like snow around 4 indigo sapphires. The arrangement recalls the central element of the motif adorning Her Majesty's Tiara, an ornament made to complement the Victorian set of sapphire jewels presented as a wedding gift by King George VI.The sapphire tiara
Since its manufacture in 1963, Her Majesty's Sapphire Tiara has been known as the "Victorian Sapphire Tiara" or the "George VI Sapphire Tiara", in reference to the Victorian jewelry presented to Queen Elizabeth II for her wedding in 1947. This gift consisted of a necklace and earrings encrusted with sapphires and diamonds, among Her Majesty's favorite sapphire ornaments. Designed to complete the ensemble, the tiara was made from a 19th-century sapphire necklace belonging to Princess Louise of Belgium (1858-1924).
Did you know that?
Her Majesty has a long-standing love of sapphires, from Prince Albert's sapphire brooch to the Victorian set donated by George VI that inspired the tiara. The Queen even wore this sapphire set (without the tiara) for an official portrait commemorating her Sapphire Jubilee in 2017. In the same year, Canada presented her with a sapphire brooch to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a wooden case adorned with the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with a black protective box.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the $250 Elizabeth II (Sapphire Tiara) coin from Canada is that it features a unique sapphire tiara design on the reverse side, which was created specifically for this coin by the Royal Canadian Mint. The tiara is adorned with 48 sapphires, each representing a different province or territory of Canada. This design element not only adds beauty to the coin but also serves as a symbol of Canadian unity and diversity.
