Date of issue: 18 OCT 1996During the Crimean War the last battle of the sailing-fleet era occurred. It took place on November 18 to 30, 1853, in the Bay of Sinop where the Russian squadron commanded by Admiral Pavel Nakhimov defeated the Turkish squadron, giving the Russian navy control over the Black Sea.

The Sinop Sea Battle coin, minted in 1996, features a unique design that showcases the historic battle between the Russian Navy and the Ottoman Empire in 1785.
