Date of issue: 01 JUL 2010The Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery was founded in the X century by Kirill the Belozersky on the shore of Siversky Lake. The architectural complex of the monastery includes the Assumption Cathedral (1497-1498), the hospital (late XVIth - early XVIIth cc), the fortress constructions of the "Old City" (XVIth c) and "New City" (1653-1682), аs well as some churches and buildings of the XVIth - XVIIIth centuries. The monastery possesses an unique collection of icons, manuscripts and old books, local applied arts including an unique collection of the peasant hand-made decorated furniture and ceramics. Before the first half of the XVIIth century the monastery was the economic and spiritual life of the Northern Russian Area.
