Date of issue: 25 SEP 2009

The Alexander I Monument (by archit. August Montferrand) erected on the Palace Place in Saint Petersburg as the memorial of the victory of the Russian army over Napoleon in the Patriotic War 1812 was inaugurated solemnly on September 10, (August 30) 1834. For that occasion the first commemorative silver coin has been issued with depictions of the Monument and the portrait of Alexander I.

Interesting fact

The Alexander I Monument coin's obverse features a portrait of Alexander I, while the reverse depicts the monument to Alexander I in Moscow's Alexander Garden.
