Date of issue: 22 DEC 1997The sable is a nimble smart small animal with extremely beautiful fur. It inhabits coniferous woods stretching from the northern Urals towards the Pacific. The Russians have been hunting this animal since ancient times. The sable was depicted on the coat of arms of the old Russian towns – Irkutsk, Yakutsk and Verkhoturye.
Interesting fact
The 1997 Russian 25 Rouble Sable coin is a non-circulating commemorative coin that was issued to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moscow State University. The coin features the image of a sable, a small mammal native to Russia, on its obverse side, and the Moscow State University's emblem on its reverse side. The coin was minted in a limited quantity of 5,000 pieces, making it a rare and sought-after collector's item among numismatists.
