During the Crimea War of 1853-1856, the Russian squadron of the Admiral P. S. Nakhimov destroyed the Turkish one in the Synop bay. The Synop Sea Battle on November 18 (30.11., New Style) 1853 was the last one of the age of the sailing fleet.
