The concept for Elizabeth and the Lion was greatly inspired by the captivating story and history of Una and the Lion - originally struck as a five sovereign piece to mark the reign of Queen Victoria in 1837. The inscription featured, is also inspired by William Wyon's Una and the Lion.

The 25 Pound Elizabeth II (Elizabeth II and the Lion) 2021 coin from Gibraltar (British Overseas Territories) made of Gold weighing 155.52g has a unique feature - it has a special " Privy Mark" on the obverse side of the coin, which is a small lion's head that is not found on other coins.
