SS Great Britian : this vessel has had close associations with the Falklands since 1886. On her last journey, she ran into a violent storm which caused damage to her masts and was subsequently forced aground of the Falklands coast. She remained there until her return to the United Kingdom in 1970.

The Royal Mint has been authorised by the Falkland Islands Government to strike a limited number of sterling silver 25 pound coins in proof condition to commerorate to 100th Anniversary of Self Sufficiency.
A maximum of only 20,000 will be struck for worldwide distribution. Each coin weighs 150 grammes and is 65mm in diameter.
