There are 4 main types of the emission.

Type 1865 - dotted border on both sides.
Type 1872 - dentilated border on both sides. Large lion stands on curved sabre with one hind leg.
Type 1873 - infrequent vertical stripes behind small lion in the shield on Obv. The lion stands on curved sabre by both hind legs.
Type 1906 - dense vertical stripes behind small lion in the shield on Obv. The lion stands on curved sabre by both hind legs.

Three varieties are known.

Obverse
Die 1 - top crown: sides engraved with almost squares, bottom decorated by a row of pearls.
Die 2 - top crown: sides engraved with elongated diamonds, bottom decorated by a wavy line, representing merged pearls. The left side (to the right for observer) has distinguished two columns of diamonds.

Die 1 (1906) S - dense vertical stripes behind small lion. Restrike, 2-3 pcs. are known.

Note. In Finnish culture the die 1 is named "vinoruud" literally "squared grid", the die 2 - "harlekiiniruud" literally "harlekin grid".

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 25 Pennia coin from Finland is that it was designed by the artist, Suomen Pankki, and features a crowned coat of arms on the obverse side, which represents the Grand Duchy of Finland.
