Comment

Decree No. 21.189 of 02MAY1931:
Extinguish the island soft currency regime (-25% than the mainland currency). In the period 1910-1931, no coins were issued for the islands of the Azores and Madeira. Not later either.
The commemorative coins issued in 1980 and 1986, which the Krausse and Alberto Gomes catalogs identify as coins for these territories, are in reality continental commemorative coins circulated throughout the Portuguese territory (Mainland + Azores + Madeira). They only celebrate the governmental autonomy of these islands.

Actually minted in 1982/83 as per decree 467/1982 and offered as set.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1981 Madeira's Regional Autonomy Silver 25 Escudos coin is that it features a unique design that showcases the island's rich history and culture. The obverse side of the coin depicts the coat of arms of Madeira, which includes a shield with a golden dolphin and a branch of laurel, symbolizing the island's maritime history and its connection to the sea. The reverse side features a portrait of Cristiano Ronaldo, a famous Portuguese footballer who was born in Madeira, and a map of the island in the background. This design was created by the artist José Aurélio, and it was meant to celebrate the island's autonomy and its cultural heritage.
