The buildings on Parliament Hill are among the world's most important examples of the Gothic Revival architectural style. These historic buildings echo the architectural style that emerged in Europe during the Middle Ages. Look beyond the buttresses, tiers-point arches and stonework, however, and you'll discover an enigmatic world of typically Canadian images carved into wood and stone. These include maple leaves, images of Canadian flora and fauna, satirical scenes, figures from First Nations mythology, roaring gargoyles, dinosaurs and countless fantastical figures known as marmosets.Featuring three of the world's most captivating marmosets, this unprecedented series will appeal to art lovers, architects, historians and collectors alike. Each piece has been designed by Canadian artist Phillip White, official sculptor of the Dominion of Canada since 2006, who has an in-depth knowledge of the thousands of figures that adorn Parliament Hill.
