Female allegories have long adorned the coins of many countries around the world. Today, a powerful figure from Canadian history is emerging from the past. Miss Canada is a visual representation of Canada's national identity and values that appeared in the years following Confederation. It was used in many contexts, from political cartoons and advertising to literature and film. In its early days, this Canadian allegorical figure was depicted as the obedient young daughter of Britannia. However, the symbolism associated with the figure evolved with Canada's role and international relations, and Miss Canada ceased to be used publicly shortly after the Second World War.Miss Canada makes a welcome return in 2013 on this 1 ounce silver coin in a modern version representing all the ideals and values of 21st century Canada.
