Comment

The old city of Panamá was founded in 1519 and destroyed by Henry Morgan in 1671. The town was rebuilt on a close site easier to defend.

Since its separation from Colombia in 1903, Panama has used the United States Dollar. These coins have the same specifications as the United States Quarter and circulates alongside it.

Released in 2004

Interesting fact

The 25 Centésimos coin from Panama, featuring the Ruins of Old Panama, was the first circulating commemorative coin to be issued by the country. It was released in 2003 as part of a series of coins celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal, and it was designed by Panamanian artist Guillermo S. Lara. The coin's unique design features an image of the ruins of the old city of Panama, which was founded in 1519 and abandoned in 1671, on the obverse (front side), while the reverse (back side) features the coat of arms of Panama and the denomination of 25 centésimos.
