The obverse (heads) depicts a portrait of George Washington, originally composed and sculpted by Laura Gardin Fraser to mark George Washington’s 200th birthday. A recommended design for the 1932 quarter, then-Treasury Secretary Mellon ultimately selected the familiar John Flannigan design.

Patsy Matsu Mink (December 6, 1927 – September 28, 2002) was an American attorney and politician from the U.S. state of Hawaii. She served in the United States House of Representatives for 24 years as a member of the Democratic Party, initially from 1965 to 1977, and again from 1990 until she died in 2002. She was the first woman of color and the first Asian-American woman elected to Congress and is known for her work on legislation advancing women's rights and education.

The 2024 Patsy Takemoto Mink Washington Quarter is the first coin in the American Women Quarters Program, which honors women who have made significant contributions to the United States. Patsy Takemoto Mink was a Japanese-American politician who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1965 to 1977 and was a leading advocate for women's rights and civil rights.
