Toronto joined the NBA in 1995-1996, when two Canadian teams joined the league. Following the transfer of the Vancouver Grizzlies to Memphis, Tennessee, in 2001-2002, the Raptors remained the only Canadian team in the NBA. Despite this apparent isolation, the team managed to recruit some of the league's biggest stars and broke attendance records for NBA games. Fans across the country rally around the team's slogan: We The North.Did you know?
In 2019, the Raptors became the first Canadian team to win the NBA championship.
Basketball was born in Canada: it was invented by Canadian James Naismith in 1891. The first NBA game was played in Toronto in 1921.
Interesting fact
The Toronto Raptors coin features a unique reversible design, with the obverse side bearing the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse side featuring the team's logo and mascot, a nod to the team's history and identity.
