Comment
Canada is home to a rich biodiversity of varied ecosystems and numerous animal species. The Royal Canadian Mint's series of smallest pure gold coins features the tiny inhabitants of the animal kingdom, including the smallest member of the rabbit family, the pica.Special features
- This 99.99% pure gold coin is the third in our popular series of 11-millimeter-diameter gold coins.
- The pica (rock rabbit), the smallest member of the rabbit family, is the ideal subject for the Royal Canadian Mint's smallest pure gold coin series.
Design
Despite the coin's small diameter, the profile of a pica, by Canadian artist Derek C. Wicks, highlights the exquisite detail of this soft-featured mammal. Curious, the pica raises its snout to the right, its front paws resting on a pile of disintegrated rocks, a typical setting on the high slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Thanks to the skill of the engravers, the large, rounded ears and fur covering the small, stocky body and small face of this shy mammal are rendered with remarkable precision.
Packaging
The piece is encapsulated and presented in a padded burgundy double-shell case. This is accompanied by a black protective box featuring the Royal Canadian Mint logo.
Interesting fact
