A Pachyrhinosaurus canadensis is seemingly charging headlong at the viewer, the ceratopsid is shown with its head lowered to place emphasis on its frill and nasal boss. To the left of the engraved herbivore is a lake setting, where the sunset is reflected on the water.

Comment
A member of the Ceratopsidae (horned dinosaur) family, Pachyrhinosaurus canadensis lived 72.2 to 71.2 million years ago. Its genus name may give the impression it is related to the modern-day rhinoceros, but that’s not the case: it just means “thick-nosed lizard.” And given the evidence of broken ribs in some specimens, it seems likely that this herbivore would head-butt its rivals!Interesting fact
The Pachyrhinosaurus Canadensis, featured on the 25-cent coin, was a type of horned dinosaur that lived in what is now Alberta, Canada, during the Late Cretaceous period, around 76 to 65 million years ago. It's known for its distinctive bony frill on its head, which was likely used for display purposes.
