The Arms reflect the city's origins as a ttrading post. The city takes its name from Governor, Henry Hamilton, at the time of incorporation on 29 July 1793. The Latin motto 'SPARSA COLLEGIT' can be translated as 'He (or it) has brought together things which were scattered'.
