This coin was designed by French engraver and sculptor, Ernest Becker, and it features a unique design that sets it apart from other coins of its time. The obverse of the coin depicts a stylized portrait of a young woman wearing a Phrygian cap, symbolizing liberty, while the reverse features a Gallic rooster standing on a pedestal, surrounded by olive branches and the coin's denomination. The use of a nickel composition was also unusual for coins of this era, making it a distinctive and collectible piece among numismatists.
