Interesting fact
The 2000 Réis coin was the first coin to feature the iconic image of Brazil's independence hero, Dom Pedro I, on its obverse side. This design change was made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Brazil's independence, which was achieved in 1822. The coin's reverse side features the coat of arms of Brazil, which includes a star-studded sky, a wreath of coffee and tobacco leaves, and a banner with the national motto "Ordem e Progresso" (Order and Progress).
