Comment
The proclamation of Juan Carlos I as king of Spain took place on November 22, 1975 before the Francoist Cortes. Under the Law of Succession in the Head of State of 1947, Franco established that the future king of Spain would be appointed by him. In July 1969, he designated Juan Carlos as successor to the title of king, an appointment ratified by the Spanish Cortes on July 22, 1969, before which Juan Carlos took the oath on the same day to uphold and enforce the Fundamental Laws of the Kingdom and the principles of the National Movement, that is, the Francoist ideology.
