Comment
The Parasol (also known as El Quitasol) is one of a cartoon series of oil on linen paintings made by the painter Francisco Goya. This series of paintings was specifically made in order to be transformed into tapestries that would be hung on the walls of the Royal Palace of El Pardo in Madrid, Spain.
Las Meninas (Spanish for ‘The Ladies-in-waiting’) is a 1656 painting in the Museo del Prado in Madrid, by Diego Velázquez, the leading artist of the Spanish Baroque. It has become one of the most widely analyzed works in Western painting for the way its complex and enigmatic composition raises questions about reality and illusion, and for the uncertain relationship it creates between the viewer and the figures depicted.
Interesting fact
The interesting fact about this coin is that it features two of Spain's most renowned artists, Francisco Goya and Diego Velázquez, on opposite sides. Goya's portrait is on the obverse (front), while Velázquez's portrait is on the reverse (back). This coin was minted to commemorate the 200th anniversary of their deaths, which both occurred in 1814.
