Comment

The choice of "David" to represent the art protected by the Carabinieri has received criticism for two reasons. The first is that this same statue already appears on the silver commemorative of 500 lire for the 600th anniversary of Donatello's birth. The second reason is that "David" was never stolen.

Long placed in the courtyard of Palazzo Vecchio (the town hall), the statue is now on display in the Bargello Palace in Florence.

Interesting fact

The 200 Lire coin (Carabinieri Art Squad) 1999 from Italy made of Bronzital weighing 5g has a unique feature - it has a distinctive "Star of the Carabinieri" design on the reverse side, which represents the symbol of the Carabinieri, an elite military police force in Italy.
