Comment

The Czech National Bank issued a special set including the Proof version of this coin and the silver medal (Ag 0.999, 16 g, 34 mm), which is the non-selected design for this commemorative coin created by Jiří Harcuba. Jiří Harcuba was an important Czech coin designer who died in 2013. This special set was issued to commemorate him. It includes the first medal issued by the Czech National Bank.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, a series of popular demonstrations and strikes that took place in Czechoslovakia in November and December 1989, which led to the collapse of the communist government and the transition to a democratic system. The coin's design features a stylized image of a hand holding a candle, symbolizing the peaceful nature of the revolution.
