Comment

The new European currency, the Euro, began to circulate in the countries that make up the Economic and Monetary Union on January 1, 2002.

The abduction of Europe: Captivated by Europa, Zeus transformed himself into a white bull and mixed with the cattle that the girl's father had. While Europa and her entourage were picking flowers near the beach, she saw the bull and caressed its sides and, noticing that it was tame, climbed onto it. Zeus took advantage of that opportunity: he ran to the sea and swam to the island of Crete carrying Europa on his back. Already in Crete, Zeus revealed his true identity, and Europa became the first queen of the island. Zeus gave Europa a necklace made by Hephaestus and three other gifts: Talos (a bronze automaton), Lelape (a dog that never let go of its prey), and a javelin that never missed. Zeus later recreated the form of the white bull in the stars now known as the Taurus constellation. Some legends say that this bull is the same one that Heracles encountered and is the one that fathered the Minotaur.
