Comment

In 1868, 150 years ago, one of the most important monetary laws of Spain was promulgated, at which time the Peseta was introduced as a single monetary unit, causing the disappearance of the Escudos as a means of official payment. Commemorating the fact of the disappearance of the Escudos, the Royal Mint issued in 2018 four gold coins with different metrics: one, two, four and eight Escudos. The collection consists of four gold coins minted in proof quality, which represent faithful reproductions of the coins of the time, including their technical specifications, with the exception of minor modifications, such as the year of issue, the nominal value of the coin and the mark of the mint.

Interesting fact

The 200 Euro gold coin minted in 2018 by Spain to commemorate the 4 Escudos of Philip II minted in 1588 is a non-circulating coin, meaning it is not meant to be used as regular currency, but rather as a collector's item.
