Oil has been in common use since the earliest days of colonization in North America. But there was no thought of extracting it from the Canadian subsoil, until huge deposits of bitumen were discovered in Alberta. In 1858, the first oil field opened in Oil Springs, Ontario. The advent of the railroad revolutionized transportation. In terms of safety and efficiency, no horse-drawn carriage could compete with a tank wagon for delivering large volumes of oil. In just a few decades, the rise of the automobile and the farm tractor caused demand to explode. Oil became a necessity of daily life, a global reality that made Canada one of the world's leading producers of black gold.
Features: Artistic hand-crafting combines with the precision of advanced techniques to accentuate the pattern and cut the relief of this piece, which is further distinguished by a laser-blackening effect, so appropriate to one of Canada's founding activities. Struck in 22-carat gold and limited to just 4,000 pieces, this sixth issue in the series will be highly prized by collectors.
Interesting fact
