Comment
Mitad del Mundo is a monument located at the equatorial line, near the city of San Antonio, in the canton of Quito. The 30-metre-tall (98 ft) monument was built between 1979 and 1982 to commemorate the first Geodesic Mission of the French Academy of Sciences. The Mission started in 1736 and the group conducted experiments to test the flattening at the poles of the characteristic shape of the Earth, by comparing the distance between a degree meridian in the equatorial zone to another level measured in Sweden.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 20 Sucres coin from Ecuador is that it features the image of a hummingbird on its reverse side. The coin's design was created by the Ecuadorian artist, Guillermo Maldonado, and it is said that the hummingbird was chosen as a symbol of the country's rich biodiversity and natural beauty.
