Comment

Jametz was part of the principality of Sedan. It underwent a long siege in 1588-1589 following the devastations perpetrated in Lorraine and on the lands of Guise in 1587 by an army of German Protestant soldiers.
In reprisal, Charles III of Lorraine decided to attack the principality of Sedan in December 1587. The city capitulated on December 29, 1588 but the garrison entrenched in the citadel surrendered only July 24, 1589, after a siege of 18 months.
Charlotte married Henry of La Tour d'Auvergne in 1591 and died in childbirth in 1594.

Interesting fact

The Siege of Jametz, which is depicted on the coin, was a significant event in the history of the Principality of Sedan. It was a siege that took place in 1588, during the French Wars of Religion, and it was a turning point in the conflict. The Principality of Sedan was a small state located in the northeastern part of France, and it was a Protestant stronghold. The siege was laid by the Catholic League, which was trying to conquer the principality and oust its Protestant ruler, Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne. The siege was ultimately unsuccessful, and it marked a significant defeat for the Catholic League. The coin was issued to commemorate this event, and it features a depiction of Charlotte, the wife of Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, who played a key role in the defense of the principality during the siege.
