Comment

The coin is similar to the one minted at 1825; the coin from Lisbon(1825)has a more delicate engraving.
There is also a coin with date 1820. It was minted at Rio de Janeiro but, supposed by mistake, was sent to Mozambique and put there in circulation.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Standard circulation coin 20 Réis - João VI (Bahia) 1819 from São Tomé and Príncipe is that it was minted during a time of great economic and political change in the region. The coin was issued during the reign of King João VI of Portugal, who also ruled over Brazil, and its minting reflects the growing influence of the Portuguese Empire in Africa during the early 19th century. Additionally, the use of copper as the material for the coin highlights the importance of this resource in the region's economy at the time.
