Comment

Fuad al-Awwal (1868-1936) was the Sultan (1917-1922) and later King of Egypt (1922-1936).

The Birmingham Mint (previously known as Heaton's Mint) struck the two 1920H 20 Piastres as samples: one was saved by the mint (now graded NGC MS 64 and sold by Baldwin's of St. James's) and one was given to the Egyptian ruler (now in a museum in Egypt).
With a large number of 20 Piastres from 1916 and 1917 already in circulation - See links, larger production was not approved for the 1920H 20 Piastres.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the Pattern 20 Qirsh / Piastres - Fuad I (Trial Strike) 1338 (1920) from Egypt is that it was minted during a time of great change in Egypt's monetary system. In 1920, Egypt officially changed its currency from the Egyptian pound to the qirsh, and this coin was minted as a trial strike to test the new currency. The coin's design features a portrait of Sultan Fuad I on one side and an image of an eagle on the other, symbolizing Egypt's newfound independence and modernization.
