The city keys are in the foreground on the bas-relief of the Loco Gate. They stand for the "Inviolability of the walls and borders". There are five keys corresponding, in number, to the present passages leading into the fortified city : The Fratta, The New Murata, The Theatre, St. Francis Gate and the Rupe Gate.
