The city keys are in the foreground on the bas-relief of the Loco Gate. They stand for the "Inviolability of the walls and borders". There are five keys corresponding, in number, to the present passages leading into the fortified city : The Fratta, The New Murata, The Theatre, St. Francis Gate and the Rupe Gate.

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design, showcasing the "Keys of the Town" which symbolize the independence and sovereignty of San Marino. The keys are depicted on the obverse of the coin, surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves, while the reverse features the coat of arms of San Marino. This design was created by the artist, E. V.
