Comment

Saint Gall (Latin - Gallus) was an Irish monk who evangelized in present day Switzerland at the beginning of the 7th century. The Abbey of St. Gallen was founded in 720 at the site of a small hermitage built by Gall a century before.
The reverse depicts a legend in which Saint Gall had befriended a bear who initially sought to harm him. The bear then brought firewood from the forest so Gall could stay warm.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 20 Kreuzers coin from the Abbey of Saint Gall (St. Gallen) is that it features an image of Saint Gall, the patron saint of the abbey, on one side, and an image of the abbey's church on the other. This coin was minted in 1774 by Beda Angehrn, a Swiss engraver and medalist, and is made of silver, weighing 6.6 grams.
