In 1862, France purchased the port, roadstead and anchorage of Obock in the Gulf of Tadjoura.It occupied the southern coast in 1885, then created the port of Djibouti, better situated on the route to Madagascar and Indochina.
Minted in 1968 by the Monnaie de Paris, Quai de Conti and in 1975 at the Établissement de Pessac.
