Engraved by Jean Warin, the profile of King Louis XIII comes from a 10 Louis coin currently in the collections of the Monnaie de Paris. To the left of the portrait are the monograms of Louis XIII and the heraldic symbols of royalty. The letter A refers to the mint where the original coin was minted, and was the inspiration for this creation (A= Paris).

It was reintroduced in 1815 during the Bourbon Restoration and was used until 1914.
