Engraved by Jean Warin, the profile of King Louis XIII comes from a 10 Louis coin currently in the collections of the Monnaie de Paris. To the left of the portrait are the monograms of Louis XIII and the heraldic symbols of royalty. The letter A refers to the mint where the original coin was minted, and was the inspiration for this creation (A= Paris).

The Louis d'or coin was first introduced in 1640 during the reign of Louis XIII and was used as a gold coin until 1793. It was reintroduced in 1815 during the Bourbon Restoration and was used until 1914. The coin was again reintroduced in 2024, this time as a non-circulating silver coin with a face value of 20 euros, as . This coin is a nod to France's rich history and cultural heritage, and its design features an image of Louis XIII on one side and the French coat of arms on the other.
