Under the name 'Numismatic Jewels', in 2008 a new series of collector coins begins in which unique pieces of Hispanic numismatics will be reproduced, and which will continue over the next few years. The coins selected for this fourth set are the gold Maravedi of Alphonse VIII of Castile, the Almohad Dinar, and an Alphonse VIII Dinero. The coins, minted in proof quality in gold and silver, have face values of 100, 20 and 10 euro respectively. The main values of the Islamic monetary system are the gold dinar, the silver dirham and the bronze felus. In al-Andalus, the westernmost territory of the Islamic world, these broadcasts had a special relevance both because they were the only ones of this type made in Europe, and because of the influence they exerted on the mints of the peninsular Christian kingdoms.
The Almohads, who put an end to the Almoravid empire, introduced important transformations in the monetary system that affected both metrology, the design of the pieces and the legends. Among the novelties that brought the most striking was the new square shape of their dirhams. In gold, the strict orthodox Almohads decided to return to the weight of the Mecca dinars at the time of the Prophet. This weight was double that of the previous coins, so these new pieces were called "Doblas" by the Christians.
