Comment

The 1996 Yukon "mothership" incident is our fifth UFO-themed story.

December 11, 1996: On a clear, cloudless evening, a motorist driving along Fox Lake (Kwätän 'aya) on the Klondike Highway noticed an unusual bright light. As he approached, he saw a set of rectangular halos moving eastward across the sky. About half an hour later, motorists in two different cars also spot these rows of lights and get out of their vehicles to get a clearer view. Within minutes, the UFO was almost directly above one of the people watching, who recalled a great streak of white light emanating from the center of an object the size of a soccer field! Two other observers travelling in the other direction provide a similar description (to which flashing lights are added), while a sixth person speaks of multicoloured glows.

Earlier in the evening, four people heading north towards Carmacks had seen a UFO with three flashing orange lights and several small white glows forming an ellipse - a description consistent with that of a family of five who spotted the UFO from their home in Carmacks.

Near the village of Pelly Crossing, a trapper reported seeing the same rows of lights, as well as a luminescent green beam and two others that were rotating. Four women from a community college see the UFO during their break, and two other local witnesses compare the length of the beams to the width of the Great Cauldron.

Finally, in the village of Mayo, eight other people see the strange lights, including tourists staying at the hotel and several teenagers who also depicted the mysterious object as immense.

What did these people see? All we know is that a huge UFO, one of the most colossal ever reported, was seen by numerous witnesses that evening, and in a short space of time.
