Comment
Superman Unchained #2 was released on July 10, 2013, the year of Superman's 75th birthday. It features six different covers, including the one painstakingly reproduced on the reverse of this piece, which gives the impression that Superman is going to hurl the tank out of the room.In this issue, which is the sequel to the first, Superman manages to prevent the collapse of a building in Dubai. The whole thing seems to have been masterfully organized by Ascension, a terrorist group that Batman later claims has declared war on the modern world. But trouble is just beginning: Batman is convinced of the existence of a new being whose physiology resembles Superman's, but whose powers may be even greater. While Lois Lane is on the trail of the Ascension members in Nova Scotia, Superman heads for Salt Flats for a confrontation with General Sam Lane. But he's soon surrounded by a high-tech, high-powered arsenal. Suddenly, Wraith, General Lane's mysterious super-creature and secret weapon, rises up to protect a weakened Superman, claiming that it is he who has long been waiting for this confrontation with the Man of Steel. Given all these adventures, it's not surprising that Superman doesn't know that Lex Luthor has escaped from prison and intends to "save the world".
