Comment
Tom Thomson (1877-1917) played an important role in the history of Canadian art. He is considered one of the most popular and influential artists of the early twentieth century. Thomson brought a dynamic spirit to his work, and nature was always his muse. He encouraged other painters to join him in capturing the rugged beauty of the Canadian landscape on canvas, a profound source of inspiration that eventually led to the formation of the famous Group of Seven. With their characteristic brushstrokes and vivid colors, the oil paintings of Canadian artist Tom Thomson have transformed the perception of Canadian northern landscapes, both at home and abroad. The Royal Canadian Mint pays tribute to one of Canada's most influential artists of the early twentieth century by reproducing the famous painting Débâcle (1916).
