Reverse
Odin on his eight-legged horse, Sleipnir. One of Odin’s raven informants, Huginn (“Thought”), is perched on his shoulder while the other, Muninn (“Memory”), flies alongside him. His two wolf companions, Geri and Freki, also accompany him. Selective gold plating highlights Odin’s helmet, arm guard and infallible spear (Gungnir), as well as two different emblems.

Father of Thor and husband of Frigg, the god of war Odin is the second of three figures featured in the Nordic Gods series. This collection of antique-finished pieces explores Scandinavian mythology and the beliefs that circulated during the era of Viking expeditions on Canadian soil (circa 1000). The English version of the word "Wednesday", Wednesday, is derived from the name "Odin" (Wōden in Old English), the widely revered "father of all" in the Norse pantheon. The long-bearded ruler of Ásgard, Odin is the god of war and death, poetry and wisdom. Such is his thirst for knowledge that he famously sacrificed his eye to drink from the fountain of wisdom.Did you know?
Odin has three important attributes: Gungnir, his fearsome spear; Draupnir, a multiplying golden ring; and Sleipnir, an eight-legged grey horse, son of Loki, the cunning and deceitful god, and Svadilfari, a giant stallion.
At Valaskjálf, his palace in Ásgard, Odin sits on a throne called Hlidskjálf. From the heights of this seat, he can watch over the world and spy on every move. He is also informed by the ravens Hugin and Munin (both depicted on the reverse of the coin).
Odin has many descendants, including Thor, the god of thunder; Baldr, the god of light, happiness and beauty; and Vidar, the silent god who avenged his father's death by killing Fenrir during the Ragnarök.
Packaging
The coin is encapsulated and presented in a double-shell case featuring the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case comes with a black protective box.
